中国地震台网正式测定：4月3日7时58分在台湾花莲县海域（北纬23.81度，东经121.74度）发生7.3级地震，震源深度12千米。震中位于北纬23.81度，东经121.74度，距台湾岛约14公里。
A 7.3-magnitude earthquake jolted the sea area near Hualien of China's Taiwan at 7:58 am Wednesday (Beijing Time), according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).
The epicenter was monitored at 23.81 degrees north latitude and 121.74 degrees east longitude, at a depth of 12 km, said a report issued by the CENC.
继7时58分发生7.3级地震后，中国地震台网又在台湾花莲县海域监测到6.0级和5.9级地震。
The quake was followed by aftershocks, with CENC reporting two quakes measuring 6.0 and 5.9 magnitudes respectively within around 40 minutes, with epicenters monitored in nearby areas.
台湾中时新闻网报道称，全台湾有震感，花莲市北滨街“幸福时刻早午餐”的房屋倾斜，往路面上倒下去，一楼直接被压到不见，路边的车辆都紧急暂停行驶。
台湾“周刊王”报道称，台湾摇晃剧烈程度，全台有感。
报道称，花莲县北滨街16号一间民宅，疑似因强震，整栋民宅直接下沉，一楼变成B1，该栋民宅一楼为早餐店铺。而花莲市中山路上也有一栋民宅倾斜倒塌，是否有人员受困等伤亡事故，仍有待进一步调查厘清。
根据中国地震台网速报目录，震中周边200公里内近5年来发生4级以上地震共256次，最大地震是本次地震。
福建厦门、福州、泉州、宁德等地震感强烈。上海、浙江、江苏、江西等地有震感。
我国发布海啸红色警报
自然资源部海啸预警中心发布海啸Ⅰ级警报（红色）。根据初步地震参数判断，地震可能会在震源周围引发局地海啸。
China issued a red alert for tsunami after the7.3-magnitude earthquakeon Wednesday.
According to the warning center of the Ministry of Natural Resources, a tsunami may be caused in surrounding waters of the quake's focus, expected to bring catastrophic effects to the coastal areas including the east of Taipei and Hualien.
自然资源部海啸预警中心根据初步地震参数判断，地震可能会在震源周围引发局地海啸，预计对我国台北东，屏东西、屏东东、台东南、台东北、花莲和宜兰沿岸局部区域造成灾害性影响。

海啸到达日本
据日本广播协会（NHK）3日报道，日本气象厅面向宫古岛、冲绳本岛等地发布海啸警报，预计浪高3米。
报道指出，海浪可能还会涨得更高，呼吁附近民众不要放松警惕，尽快撤离到安全的地方。
Japan's weather agency on Wednesday morning issued a tsunami warning for islands of the southern Okinawa prefecture, with waves having already reached some areas.
A 30-centimeter tsunami was observed at the island of Yonaguni at 9:18 am local time, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).
Weather officials expected 3-meter-high waves to be rapidly approaching Miyakojima and Yaeyama islands and will arrive at Okinawa Main Island region at around 10:00 am local time.
The agency has urged the local residents to evacuate to higher ground or safe places as soon as possible.
